Stalin would have rounded up the families of the snipers in the US and machined gunned them into bulldozed mass graves ...leading to ever more vicious, more determined, more merciless sniping.

Good point.
My premis is based on the assumption that Hitler "declared war" on America, which solved Roosevelt's problem of how to declare war on Germany after the Japanese attacked.
(Wonder what the democrats would say if they realized these same percents (roughly) apply now to their declared enemy, GW Bush against the US's real enemy of Saddam?)

and nearly half the U.S. population likes you because you've got good press.Good press? After you just nuked London, that would be a stretch.

Good press? After you just nuked London, that would be a stretch. Oh, but of course that's not what really happened. According to definitive authorities within your propaganda machine, the destruction of London was a terrible industrial accident, the result of ill-advised weapons research that England had been warned against pursuing time and time again. By you.
Of course, you only stepped in to restore order, as a humanitarian gesture. You will be happy to return the sovereignty of England to the English people as soon as 1) the current state of emergency is resolved, and 2) a surviving heir to the English throne can be found. Until that time, you rule as Regent. Why, you've already got a replacement Reichstag Parliament in place. It's your gesture of goodwill toward the English people.

(What does it take to make government shrink?)
To: Rytwyng
Most likely not. The Chechyans, Ukranians, Cossaks, and dozens of other groups in the former Soviet Union that were armed were eventually crushed through the use of extreme terror tactics. We could have done the same in Viet Nam and can do the same in Iraq - but we won't because we are not a Communist dictatorship.

Naw. Everybody would have just ended up with a lot of German souvenirs.

The theory that the German Navy was not strong enough would have been irrelevant. In the scenario outlined, the Germans would have had the added advantage of the entire French & Italian fleet, plus much of the British fleet that would have been trapped in the Mediterranean.
The Naval power of the Nazis would have been imense.
