Mike Villines ignited political dynamite Thursday afternoon when he announced his candidacy for the 29th Assembly District's Republican nomination. Before sunset, Assembly Republican Leader Dave Cox had weighed in on the race. By Friday morning, fax machines were working overtime and e-mails were flying as if it were the closing days of a hotly contested election.

REPUBLICAN LEADER DAVE COX ISSUES STATEMENT
ON CHALLENGERS TO ASSEMBLYMAN SAMUELIAN

"The Assembly Republican Caucus stands firmly behind Assemblyman Steve
Samuelian, and will work hard to help him win re-election so he can continue
to serve the people of the 29th Assembly District and the State of
California. The last thing our party needs is a contested primary election
in a Republican district that will serve only to waste precious Republican
resources which should be used to re-elect President Bush, and elect more
Republicans to the State Legislature."

"Steve Samuelian is a tireless fighter on behalf of the taxpayer. ... "

He's also a conservative - pro 2nd Amendment, pro life, all the issues we hold near and dear. And HE DID NOTHING WRONG. The holier-than-thou Republicans have their heads stuck down toilets. They should come up for air and do something constructive with their time, energy and money. They could help get other Assembly seats filled by Republicans.

Samuelian did do this before. It's fishy.

One reason we are so ineffective in CA is our Republican base is incompetent.

Samuelian did admit to soliciting a prostitute (after he was caught red-handed) in 1998.

Cruisin' for a bruisin'?

When we last left Assemblyman Steve Samuelian, he was looking for the Fresno County Farm Bureau and happened to stumble upon an area of known prostitution and a brush with Fresno's finest. The city attorney opted not to file charges.

Now, if a handful of his former political friends have their way, the freshman Republican will be looking for a new career.

The GOP power structure in Fresno screened potential replacements and came up with Mike Villines, a former advance man for Gov. Pete Wilson, to run against Samuelian in next year's primary. Their hope is that other legitimate Republican candidates will give way to Villines, ensuring a one-on-one contest with Samuelian.

It is quite early, since he announced on Friday. But we all know where SS stands. He is a fire breathing conservative, but the pesky little character flaw just keeps following him around...

Except show blatant stupidity.

BTTT on that one. Samuelian is a life long resident of Fresno, and he is WELL AWARE of what all of us call HOOKER ROW. Saying he was unaware that Hookers were trolling, is like driving down the runway of LAX, and being shocked that a Wide Body flies by...geez...

Well, time will tell whether he is a RINO or not. As for me, I would have no interest in voting a person into office who seems to have a habit of frequenting known hangouts for prostitutes.

Once again, a politician seems to be unable to control himself. As a result, his constituents and his party suffer. His conservative voting record is irrelevant. The guy should step aside. I am confident there are lots of conservative Republicans who don't have the urge to frequent prostitutes. It makes me wonder how his wife deals with his behavior considering the AIDS risk he has subjected himself and herself to.

The advantage the DemonRats have over the Pubbies....if a Republican is a strong 2nd amendment supporting, pro-life, fiscal restraint, anti-illegal immigration and pro-Constitution; but:

(1) Might not keep his d**k in his pants where it belongs, or
(2) Smoke something other than tobacco or
(3) Might be gay, then

It is better to have a gun banning, pro-choice, big spending, illegal ignoring, Constitutional law interpreting RINO who is straight and only drinks beer. Yep, sounds like a plan.

Well, that's not to mention he was arrested there for soliciting an undercover cop in 1998.

Speaking of ancient history.  Here is a pic of SS and fam with Mike Briggs, the former assemblyman who jumped ship during the last California Budget Crisis, and caved in to Red Davis.  The result, Briggs is gone, the "tractor tax" is history, and the 29th remains saddled with Creighton's.  Time to enter control/alt/delete....

If we are going to espouse a particular standard of conduct...we're going to be expected to live up to it.
