Asteroid 1950DA is not so large to destroy life on Earth, as it happened 65 million years ago, when another huge space rock ran into the planet. I don't recall anything in biology or geology class about life on earth being destroyed 65 million years ago.
If world events were covered to the same standard as mainstream press science reporting, the papers would be describing the invasion of Iran in response to the Khadafi regime's attempt to develop death ray guns.

According to recent calculations, the giant asteroid might collide with planet Earth on Saturday, March 16th, 2880. I guess I'll cancel my dentist appointment.

No problemo. Our descendents will simply move it into a parking orbit and commence mining operations. Earth will then have another moon.

You're way too late on digging your shelter. Since it needs to be 1,350 feet deep, you should have started digging over the weekend.

Asteroids should be outlawed!
I demand Asteroid control NOW!

I told my cats, and they said not to worry; if it gets too close, they'll arch their backs and start hissing at it, and that should take care of it...
