It seems to me that one of the things you are going to bump up against is that the measure of complexity that applies to evolution (as yet, organismal behavior has not been mapped to any dynamical system) is going to take a form of a measure of information about its niche.

Exactly. The classic Kolmogorov Complexity does not accommodate such dimensions. That's why I asked specifically about von Neumann entropy and that's why I'm particularly interested in the hierarchical approach in the big pdf file I linked earlier! That's also why tortoise et al research in A.I. complexity WRT dynamic systems is so important.

And that measure of complexity will increase over time with the evolution of organisms.

I suspect the formulation will be the same over the entire timeline, but the variables will change as complexity increases.

In sum, the big issue I'm noticing is an urgent desire to have a useful formulation for biological autonomous self-organizing complexity. The good news is that they're "on it." The researchers noted in 614 seem to be making excellent progress.
