One of my favorite anecdotal stories has Abraham Lincoln say that, "if you call a dog's tail a leg you may say a dog has five legs -- but it will not be true -- because no amount of calling a dog's tail a leg will make it so."

And if you call liberalism "compasionate conservativism" you may say liberalism is compasionate conservativism -- but it will not be true -- because no amount of calling liberalism "compasionate conservativism" will make it so."
