...The US is undoubtedly involved. ...

I wish it were true, but I doubt it.
---

I am sure we are. If Bush weren't president I wouldn't be so sure, but given his commitment to democratizing the Middle East, and having warned Iran about their nuclear ambitions, which they didn't heed, I think he is pursuing the next step: after judging the Iranian resistance sufficiently strong to almost do it on their own, we probably assured them that if needed we stand ready with our military right next door in Iraq, to help them and not let the Iranian government stop them. There was an official statement from the White House today, supporting the protesters, I think that was probably a signal to go full speed ahead.

This time the US is not going to let down the freedom fighters.

You mean armed troops, I am sure we don't have enough! This is moving much too fast for us to do much else than stand on the sidelines and cheer and look at the blood and gore coming!!

Re #60

Yes, let both mullahs and their opposition know that this time around the opposition really have something to fall back on, even if mullahs try to kill all of them. Mullahs would have a real tough time to crack down on protesters, if American troops are on stand-by next door in Iraq and in possession of all those surplus arms from Saddam's regime.

The situation is completely different from Tienanmen Sqaure uprising. The brutal quelling of protest won't be the end of the story. On the contrary, it will make things much worse for mullahs. That is, Bush could come in and clean their clock, one way or the other.
