"Priority mail is actually pretty fast, and if I need to ship something, the post office lobby is open 24x7, so I can print up a $3.85 stamp using the vending machine, stick it on a flate-rate priority mail envelope, and drop it in the mail slot"
All the value of .37 cents for a cost of 3.85!!!
They still lose billions.

They keep building larger post offices, have place to buy extras that have no one to wait on you, waste a lot of space with little leaflets, still have long, long lines. Why not spend money on more employees instead of all the useless extras. Unless you send priority they contract out their shipping. Then they wait until they have a full pallet for each zip code before shipping. Fortunately there is a mail box place near by where you get fast service and none of the hassle. They are for me.

All the value of .37 cents for a cost of 3.85!!! LOL. Right on. I've raced packages to myself to test the service. Invariably, regular mail gets here faster than "Express". I went down to Customer Disservice at the PO and complained about the slow, indeterminate delivery of "Express" mail, and he pulled out a code regulation book that they had underlined (obviously a common complaint) that defined "Express Mail" in the exact same handling procedure as the regular mail. It's just in a more colorful wrapper.
It would be fraud if it were not the govmt.
