Iranian Students are reportedly holding 3 Hebollah hostage demanding release of 80 students

I just heard from friends in Tehran.

They are telling me that the Students have taken three memebers of Hizbollah hostage. They are demanding the release of the eighty students that had been arrested by the regime four days ago.

They are very optimistic that things are going to change soon. They can hear the protests and see the courage of the people to stand against the regimes forces.

It was also reported that the students had taken over the televison station in the city of Shiraz.

Also of interest, most of them watch LA based Iranian TV for news. These are the same satilite stations that are struggling to stay on the air for lack of support among US business or government. It appears they are doing for Iran waht we can't even do for Iraq. In case you don't know this, the US still does not have broadcasts in Iraq, while the Iranians do.

Finally, the Tehranians were asking “why they haven’t heard from President Bush?.”

don't think you're wrong. Is a secular democracy is achieved, the question will - and should - be : how long until the next revolution brings a new Ayatollah? That's another part of the reason we can't use military intervention in Iran.

Right. If the Iranians have to EARN their freedom with their own blood, they are more likely to keep it when the next batch of mullahs roll into town.

For a people to KEEP their freedom, they must have FOUGHT for it. They must be comfortable with the idea of CONTINUING to fight for it whenever new threats to their liberties appear. They must be left with the attitude that any mullah that comes around telling them how to live, needs to be attached to the nearest tree, and that they won't wait for any outside help to show up -- the first Iranian seeing the need gets to do it.

Without this ATTITUDE of liberty, which will only come from having to FIGHT for it, and seeing friends and relatives DIE for it, their liberty will melt and evaporate like a snowball in the hot Middle-Eastern sun. Bleeding for a cause will create passion -- and fighting for it will induce a willingness to "deal with" any threats to it, on an immediate and individual basis

Remember, the surrounding Islamic theocracies CANNOT tolerate a state which has repudiated Islam (which is what thowing out the mullahs MEANS), and will declare all of Iran an Apostate region -- which will put Iran HIGHER on the hit list than Israel

This, by definition, makes the rebellion a rebellion against Islam itself.

It's a rebellion against fundamentalist rule, not against islam. Sorry, I will always view islam as a threat to civilization. As another poster is fond of saying here: "Islam is an insane murder cult and moderate islam is its Trojan Horse."

Yep, absolutely true, though many Sunnis already do not consider Shiites to be true muslims and vice versa. It would be sheer heaven for us if Iranians began to repudiate the whole of islam. One can only hope that after this they will see the light and do just that.

Absolutely. The hypocrisy of the Islamic Regime has destroyed its credibility with the vast majority of the Iranian people.
