Just eliminate the income tax and go to a national retail sales tax. That would eliminate this issue entirely.

World bank to help Iran with environmental programs

Sunday, June 08, 2003

Tehran, Jun 8 - Manager of the project on promotion of environmental administration Yousef Hojjat said here on Sunday that the world bank will extend a credit of $24 million to promote Iran's environmental management program, IRNA said.

Speaking at a gathering of environmental managers, he said that the project aims to develop the potentials of department of environment (doe), tackle air pollution and call for the need to apply climatic laws and quality standards.

"The project will deal with air pollution in the cities of Tehran, Isfahan, Mashhad and Arak, water pollution in Karoun river and protection of environment," he added.

Hojjat pointed to attempts to tackle all types of pollution and environmental demolitions to materialize article 50 of the constitution, protect the environment, comply properly with the laws of the first to third five-year development plans and the law on preventing air pollution.

Manager of the environmental project said that drawing up proper national strategies in line with reduction and control of air and water pollution can promote the potentials of the environmental management system.

"Provision of appropriate data and bringing the pollutants under control are required to materialize such an objective," he noted.

The official said that establishment of air and water pollution measurement stations will provide a continuous progressive data bank where the quality of air and water are registered.

"Such a data bank can eventually be equipped with devices capable of registering and transferring data, handling statistical calculations and having access to national and international networks," he added.

He reiterated that the level of air and water pollution in all areas and highly-populated regions, the impact of polluting sources and level of pollution at the surrounding areas will be specified in such stations

Amen.

Hopefully Bush will go for it, but it would be a surprise coming from anybody, even Reagan.
