Another one-industry town in decline. When you have been the Capital of the World, it is tough to step down from your once-great eminence, and become just another decaying and bypassed backwater, as more progressive and energetic municipalities overtake and surpass your greatest glory days.

The isolation is probably the worst part. The old folks gather and reminisce on the glory days, but what few visitors still come, are quickly drawn away to more interesting attractions.

That's some entertaining writing. But you'll never top Scumbaggio the opera.

“I think the article is absolutely priceless. Too many funny moments to cite, though the Mikey the Moose part really cracked me up,” said Greg Packer, 38 of Huntington. “I do think he let Maureen Dowd off a little too easily. I got her autograph, you know. She’s not nice.”

As I see it, what is wrong with Howell Raines and the NYT is what's wrong with the news industry as what's wrong with Laura Callahan and the HSD is what's wrong with the intell "industry." There's nothing wrong with what you've written but I'd like to see the controversies expand to the broader issues.
