Measure would limit fireworks in bars

Nightclubs and other businesses without fire sprinklers no longer could allow pyrotechnics shows or fireworks under an ordinance that will be voted on tonight by the Louisville Metro Council.

Council member Dan Johnson, D-21st District, proposed the measure in response to the Feb. 20 fire at a Rhode Island bar that killed 98 people.

Speaking as a retired musician, I say that if a group can't draw a crowd without the fireworks, they should just give it up.

Boy, that's a no-brainer! What's a fire code DO if it doesn't prohibit setting off fireworks inside public buildings with no sprinklers? Am I allowed to roast a whole pig in my apartment, too?
