As I see it, to stay true to the gay agenda, gays and gay proponents will appear to distance themselves from groups that may hurt their cause. As documented in After the Ball, How America will Conquer its Fear & Hatred of Gays in the 90s by Kirk and Madsen, they write on page 182:
Because our movement must first grow stronger before it can help its still weaker friends, we recommend a rule for public alliance that is tough and selfish. But that rule doesn't favor insularity: the movement should eagerly ally itself with large , mainstream groups that can actually advance our interests (e.g., the Democratic P arty, the National Organization for Women, or the Presbyterian Church). But even then, we should demand to see some major public demonstration of their commitment to our cause before we rush to commit to theirs.

Unless and until such bold alliances materialize, however, the bottom line remains: be focused in your efforts to reach the public via mass media. In the minds of straights, we must be gay people, not leftists or whales. So talk, talk, talk about gay rights, and leave it at that. (Feel free to agitate for any other cause you like, of course, but do so while wearing another hat.) And downplay any support from outgroups whose very names are likely to arouse suspicion and antipathy. Otherwise, desensitization will be all the harder to achieve.
