NOT LONG AGO the Assembly Appropriations Committee, facing California's $38.2 billion budget deficit, shelved one proposed spending bill after another, spending being a pointless topic. I watched as committee chairman Darrell Steinberg noted the only good news was that President Bush was sending Sacramento $2.4 billion in relief.

Norm, I saw this in the S.F. Communist also and was searching before post when I found your post.

Possibly this is the way the moderate analysis of Ca. state government is going to go in the future.

Having fled the Golden State in '91 I always derive a bit of schadenfreude from the mess the demonrats have brought upon the state.

Then I start wondering what will happen to the other 49 states when the economy of the largest tanks. The 'rats have made a real mess of things.

You would think that CA would have a pretty steady income as far as property taxes go. Have you driven through Los Angeles or Beverly Hills lately? Obviously this is simply a case of spending more than you are bringing in. Even though Economics 101 is pretty boring, this is one of the first things they teach you.

Prop 13 fixes property tax rates at 1% of the purchase price, plus a very small increase (2-3%), per year. Since prices have run up in the last 3-4 years, many people are sitting on assessed values less than 1/2 of the current market value. For older people that have owned their homes since the 70s, the difference is even greater - my parent's is around 1/25 of the market value.

(Davis) let the Democrats push him into what he knew was wrong

I don't Davis lets anyone push him into anything. He knew it was wrong, but he (correctly) figured that the majority of Californians wouldn't know or care!

If anything, he pushes people around, at least an office worker, as I recall. He has all the tact of a weasel. (Do weasels actually have tact I wonder?) I never hung around weasels much, myself.

Come on, this has to be an Onion Oped, not something from the SF Gayrhonicle.

Did Hell Freeze Over last night. I know that it was cool last night but not that cold.

These tax and spend Rat Perverts in Sacramento only know two things to keep their perverted voting cults happy:

Pass more bills to pay for those votes of the perverted.

Raise our taxes to pay for these bills.

Now now! LOL

Jill Stewart is a somewhat frequent contributor to SF Carbunckle ... and soon, to become an infrequent contributor as soon as the stonies in the Editor's room wake up from the night before's binge after bashing the Recall.

I had to look twice myself.. LOL

Sen. Sheila Kuehl. Kuehl just pushed through the Senate a troubling "universal health care" bill to give the state -- whose Medi-Cal is arguably the most inefficient in the United States -- the power to abolish all private health insurance and control the care of every Californian.

How much has this little gem been publicized? Why won't they let the voters in on it, better yet, why won't they let us vote on it?

They have already passed a bill to bring Mexican doctors and nurses up here to work in CA. That's the groundwork for the next disaster. Few American doctors will consent to socialized medicine. They will either retire or leave the state.

The recall can't happen soon enough.

"They have already passed a bill to bring Mexican doctors and nurses up here to work in CA."

Virtually all the nurses are Filipino already.
