The reason that the Union couldn't let the rebels leave is becuase once that happens, there isn't a country anymore. Once the confederates left, what was to stop Maine from leaving becuase the are no "r"'s in Massachusets, New York form leaving because water melts at 32 degrees, etc. If you are not strong enough to hold the parts together, you don't have a Union. Thank God the confederates cause was not popular enough to destroy this great country.

Your logic escapes me...

So, basically what you're saying is, if one of the members of the remaining Union of States in North decided to succeed, then it is the right & duty of the others to beat it into submission?

What ever happened to the Christian concept of "Freewill" or "Do unto others as you would have done unto you"?

I have an idea for you...why not create a Parliamentary System of government that would be so great that everyone would want to be part of it?

On second thought, you're right...we should all have OUR rights turned into privileges, the fruits OUR their labour distributed where politicians see fit, OUR children forcefully educated in ways WE disagree with, OUR sons sent to fight wars on foreign shores when OUR borders are totally open to illegal traffic.

Yeah, what were those guys who signed the Declaration of Independence thinking anyway? ROFLMAO
