This recall effort is stupid. We can't win this game. If Davis survives, he is stronger than ever. If Davis loses and DiFi is elected, we get little or no improvement in the Gov's mansion, and it's said DiFi will appoint Cruz Bustamente (!) to the Senate - he's more liberal than Boxer, let alone DiFi. If Davis is recalled and a Republican is elected, he faces a huge budget deficit, huge Dem majorities in the legislature, and frankly will be in a can't win situation. He will be voted out in 2006. Meanwhile, his election will molify anger against Dems all around the state, and allow them to blame the GOP for their mess. Meanwhile, as this article notes, we're wasting time, attention, and money that could go to the Senate race next year, and various legislative and other races.

There is nothing on earth that could make Davis stronger.......you are dreaming. Davis is toast!
The message will have been sent.....the people have power and are not afraid to exercise that power.

This recall will be over (either way) as early as this fall and no later than the sprng. There is plenty of time to campaign a candidate against Boxer. BTW, don't hold your breath about someone beating Boxer; CA is too heavily liberal to elect a republican senator uless that individual is very noteworthy and charismatic.

A Republican takes the Governor's mansion, GW makes a deal to bail out California and carries the state in 2004.
The new governor spends all of 2004 issuing press releases of discoveries of scandalous spending by Davis, drumming up a long train of disgust for democrats in the state. Things start to improve, local budgets are stabilized, businesses see a pickup, the GOP candidate for Boxer's seat wins hands down. California gets back their conservative electorate and returns to fiscal sanity.

It was announced tonight on the Al Rantel show by Issa that the recall drive will get enough signatures. Davis is toast, but they may need to send in federal marshals to get him out after the recall election.

A meeting this weekend of 400 California Republican moderates was supposed to be a showcase for the partys potential 2004 Senate contenders, culminating in a straw poll to bless a favorite. According to whom?
Davis isn't strong no matter what he does. It's not part of his character.
Meanwhile, his election will molify anger against Dems all around the state, and allow them to blame the GOP for their mess.
Seeing as you clearly haven't been paying attention, the legislature doesn't even care about the budget crisis, so why should they care about Davis. They hate him. They're passing every wierd bill imaginable. Best we give Davis reason to wield a veto pen.
What the RINOS fear is that they now have three candidates in the chase: Issa, Riordan, and Ahnold. The conservatives have one: McClintock. The Slave Party will surely put up a passel of suitors. Hell we've got Bustamentalcase, Willie, Burton, and ChiFinance. With the vote fractured that badly, McClintock has a real shot. No wonder you guys are wailing.

I would love to see DiFi run from Chocolate Mountain.

It sounds like the California Republican surrender monkeys have been drinking too much French whine. Now you know why Gray Davis won the last election. Hmmm, I wonder if they havn't been compromised by Gray money.

This article flies in the face of all conventional wisdom on campaigns. Usually, a dud at the top of the ticket is considered to be a bad thing for others of the same party. This article is suggesting that it is somehow good for Boxer if the most high profile person from her party on the ballot is a total loser that most of California dislikes.
That's just crazy. The reality is that it's the Senate seat that the GOP will have a hard time winning. Although I hate RINO's in general, the fact is that by putting Scwarzenegger on the ticket, the GOP is going to take the governor's mansion easy, and the spillover to the Senate race will be positive.
What you are seeing is a bunch of desperate media hacks trying to persuade the GOP to not go through with the recall. Meanwhile, Davis's aides are leaving left and right because they know he is going to lose.

"The odds of the recall qualifying have increased to the point of near certainty," says Republican consultant Dan Schnur. And a Democrat strategist acknowledged: "Several people around [Davis] are of the assumption that they have to prepare as if it is going to qualify."
http://www.cnn.com/2003/ALLPOLITICS/06/09/timep.gray.davis.tm/ I also think that the recall will be successful, I really don't think Gray Davis will resign.
I think the big issue is that a large number of Republican candidates will fracture the Republican vote, and another Dem will waltz into the governor's mention, sending a Thank You note to the Republicans for putting him there, and sitting there for the next 8 years.
And while some say, that would still be a "success", I disagree. The only way the recall is worth it to the Republicans, if they can also get a Republican elected as governor. I think if we don't get a Republican in, this recall effort will have been worse than an exercise in futility, it will actually help the Democrats get a "clean start".
If a Republican would get elected, I do think he could do a lot to start pulling California out of the hole. (The only Republican who I don't think has a clue on how to do that is Schwartzeneggar, IMO. I am also choking at the idea of having a Kennedy as CA's First Lady).
The big question and issue is for Republicans to figure out which Republican has the best shot and unite behind that person, instead of having 12 factions pushing their 12 pet candidates, then having each get 5% of the vote, while a Democrat will get 50%, getting all the Democrats votes. Then the recall actually ends up leaving the Democrats stronger.

If Davis survives? Jezzz man, Davis is done. He murdered his own political career. What Davis ought to do is resign, and do it fast. Of course he wont do that, and I will enjoy this historic event, watching him go down in flames.

The moderates are stupid for ignoring the conservatives.
You will never make things better by electing a moderate, you only shove yourselves off the deepend a bit more slowly.
We'll watch you sink though.

You are missing the point, message has to be sent by recalling Davis. All we hear is about the power of our vote, well here is our chance. This will be the first successful recall in America's history. The message is to stop wasting OUR money with high taxes and excessive government spending. Your right about leaving Davis in office he will be even more empowered just as Clinton was in his last year. So what if Feinstien is elected, we will have sent a message to her and also giving hope to the rest of the country that their is a chance for recall. How many politicians promise what you want to hear before their election and once they get elected they do what ever the hell they want?

No, if Davis survives he is limping, lame, and most of all humiliated. The 32 other recall efforts in state history never made it past 100,000.
If Davis loses and DiFi is elected
Feinstein again? Good lord I'm getting sick and tired of the cynical, defeatist idiocy of the California Republicans. I'm not originally from here, and the cowardice of you people is so glaring, so patently obvious that I'm surprised you have the guts to even be so publicly pessimistic, unless you are fishing for pats on the back and condolences. You'll get none from me.
Meanwhile, as this article notes, we're wasting time, attention, and money that could go to the Senate race next year, and various legislative and other races
Huh? Why bother. The GOP WILL lose those, remember? You are contradicting yourself here, remember the mantra; defeatist, defeatist, defeatist...

It might work the opposite way too. Before Reagan was governor, the Rats controlled all of California also. The pendulum swung in the other direction for a good many years with a number of Republican governors after Reagan.
The recall could also be a sign that the public has finally had enough of the Rats for a while.
