I thought Richard Doerflinger was a Permanent Deacon, but a quick web search failed to reveal any hits that would verify this. I met him in the mid 1990's at a conference on euthanasia in Arlington and was very impressed with his zeal and knowledge.
Ping for a very important article.

Okay, for a non-Catholic, what does 'permanent deacon' signify? Was he once rightly addressed as 'Father Doerflinger'?
