Brinkley--who has a long and distinguished history of television news--was part of the famous Hunley & Brinkley Report during the 1960's. He also had a distinguished second career at ABC with This Week with David Brinkley for many years, too.

Despite his political leanings he will be missed. =(

Brinkley had no use for Clinton.

He may not have agreed with conservatives, but you would have never known it from his reporting on This Week.

He was one of the few major news guys to condemn Bill Clinton during the impeachment hearings.

What are you talking about? Dont rememember if it was a political convention or election night but on one of Brinkley's last on air events he thought his mike was off and he did a late night tirade on Clinton being a liar that made it on air.

Maybe he wasnt a conservative ideologue but he was far from being liberal. He was very much centrist in his views. If you find that hard to believe, then perhaps its you that are a wee bit extreme.

Yeah, when a journalist of his caliber argued, it was imbued with fact and attempted to elicit debate. The left journos out here now are just shills.

I'm still not sure what his leanings were. He was a heck of a journalist.

Mr. Brinkley was one of the few who would do his best to cut through the spin and not allow a politician to evade a question. His comment about Clinton was not at all out of character for him. He would treat both conservatives and liberals with the same respect or distain that they deserved based on whether they were frank or evasive in their responses. ABC's Sunday morning show went straight into the hopper when he left.

He will be sorely missed.

Tony Kornhieser just relayed a story about how Brinkley was encouraging Reagan to pick Bush to be his running mate during the 1980 convention. Brinkley noted on the air that Reagan could find Bush at the hotel bar if he wanted to speak with him.
