In other words if you don't like the fact that you are mentally ill you can protest the APA (homosexuality 1973) and have it taken off.
That doesn't mean that they are not mentally ill. Homosexuals are still mentally ill.

And, indeed, I was just remembering when I was in elementary school in the early '70s, and heard a news story about removing homosexuality from "the book of mental disorders."
It sounded eerily similar to this one.
Wait and see -- the Roman Polanski will become the poster boy for this movement, to give us the idea that it's "normal" man-girl stuff, as opposed to a NAMBLA initiative.

I have a 1953 editor of Encyclopedia Americana. It is interesting to read the article on Homosexuality. What did they learn about homosexuality between 1953 and 1973? Nada!Yet they completely changed their view of it. So much for the "science" of it.

Apparently APA membership needs to be defined as a mental disorder. The absurd nature of the question being asked discredits the APA's decision to delist homosexuality.
