Ahhh, I see.. a Vast LP Wing Conspiracy ;-) I read a similar article where Muslims were trying to organize the takeover of one of the less populous states for similar political reasons. The idea was to take over a small state elect Muslim senators and replace the state constitution with the Sharia.
