Because waste reduction cuts down on the amount of space taken up in landfills, as well as re-using our resources. It's very simple.

Why don't you visit NJ and tell them that they should end their recycling program since there is plenty of land for garbage dumps.

Who cares? (Not to mention that much of those thing you loyally segregated, stored, and displayed at the curb end up in the SAME LANDFILLS.)
