Excommunicating Catholic politicians is fine, but it will do nothing to lessen the number of abortions. It's showboating.
WRONG! It's justice, not showboating. But I suppose it doesn't fit into the anything-goes, modernist, I'm-OK/you're-OK (on the way to hell) mentality.
Justice on this earth scares some people. What should scare them is the justice that is both inescapable and everlasting--the justice brought on by lack of justice here on earth. Decrying truth and justice as "Showboating" will not save anyone from the truth, sinkspur. It only serves to perpetuate the evil in a comfortable, new order way.
For crying out loud!

Massachusetts Catholics are going to elect someone other than Ted Kennedy to the Senate if the next Archbishop of Boston kicks him out of the Church? No that won't happen, Kennedy keeps getting elected one, because of he last name and second, because of his seniority in the senate .. he brings alot of money to the state
Then there are all the unions
But kicking Kennedy out, sure would send a message

Right, my friend. It is a sin to show consent to sin by silence when one should speak up.
That's basic Catholic doctrine, and it's not called showboating (not by Catholics, anyway).

Lots of Catholics, especially those around Boston, would point to bishops who transferred abusive priests and ask "Where is the justice for them"?
I suspect the reason the Catholic bishops are laying low is that they have every reason to, given their mafia-like behavior in regards to clerical predators.

Dashole's Bishop publicly stated that he has automatically excommunicated himself, and that the Church does not need to make it formal, since it is simple Catholic doctrine to anyone who understands Catholic faith.
So you are right, my friend. Dashole is out of here. Remember the old legal addage that "Silence gives consent". It has applied through Roman times to today. The Church has always applied it in such matters.

They should be excommunicated because they do not belong in the Church, not because it is some means of temporal duress.
You've lost your compass.

Three artful dodges in one post. Wow! Making progress (but not truth, as usual) I see. I'll keep praying for truth and justice. You keep on praying for... well whatever new order thing it is you pray for... or to... or at... or with... or about.

It is a sin to show consent to sin by silence when one should speak up. Perhaps you could post the last "letter to the editor" you've written about abortion.
Post it right here.

You've lost your compass. I can't speak for sinkspur .. but I think he is looking at the catholic community in general
We may not like it, but the fact is that a number of them are liberal
They may never have an abortion themselves .. but they don't want to tell someone else not to.

If excommunication means nothing to you, then the Holy Sacrements mean nothing to you.It means something to me; it means nothing to Massachusetts Catholics.
Hell, Teddy Kennedy KILLED a woman, and he was reelected overwhelmingly!
You've lost your compass.
Nah. I've always despised Teddy Kennedy, and Mary Landrieu, and Tom Daschle.

So it means something to us, so that is why it should be done.
(And if it means so little to Teddy, why would he use such high-torque influence to keep the MA 'Church' on his side?)

Senate Minority Leader Tom Daschle has received a letter from the bishop of his home diocese of Sioux Falls, S.D., informing him that he can no longer publicly identify himself as a member of the Catholic Church.
If the Bishop demands that a man stop publically calling himself Cathoic, then it would take a man of sinkspurian ignorance to think he was still in communication with the Church. Take up the case for the babykiller's good standing all you want, sinkspur. But good luck fooling God--or any real Catholic for that matter.

Strange enough that they all speak with one voice, but when did they elect YOU their spokesman?
To: Petronski
Besides, why not deny them even the pretense of being 'Catholic?' Are you saying to kick them all out?
That won't happen .. there are too many of them

If the Bishop demands that a man stop publically calling himself Cathoic, then it would take a man of sinkspurian ignorance to think he was still in communication with the Church. I'm familiar with that letter. Nowhere in it does the bishop say that Daschle is forbidden from receiving the sacraments of the Catholic Church.
If he can receive the sacraments, he's not excommunicated.
The bishop simply asks that Daschle not publicly associate himself with the Church.
Why are you so pissed all the time, Thorondir?
