[history]
Rap entrepreneur Master P has been busted at Newark Airport with six hollow-point bullets, the deadly and illegal ammo known on the streets as "cop-killers."
The Louisiana-based hip-hop star and record executive, 36, whose real name is Percy Miller, was due to board an America West flight to Los Angeles late Tuesday when he was stopped by Transport Security Administration agents.

I was surprised to see this kind of disinfo from the NY Post. KTW is the ammo that was branded with the cop-killer misnomer, and it is FMJ.

As opposed to the friendly and "Its only a flesh wound" ammo? Come on.

What was this guy's itinerary? Could there be any FOPA issues here?

NOw hollow points are deadly "cop killer bullets" and are illegal in NY?
It's an uphill battle, educating idiots who don't want to learn.

The controversial bullets...are designed to mushroom on impact and to cause a maximum of serious physical injury and pain to the target.
Say it ain't so! Bullets that are designed to kill? No way! /sarcasm

If I feel that I might have to take a human life. I would use a Glaser Safety slug. It would help protect innocents behind walls in the same building. But they would be extremely bad for the bad guy.

Well it's called the New York Post because, I think, it's in New York.
But yeah, the article seems to describe hollow points, which are usually stoppable by a good vest. I'd guess either that's not what he had on him, or possibly he was popped just for having ammo of any kind. I'm not up on how NJ or "Homeland Security" law affects checking pistols & ammo together in that particular locale. I'm guessing either authority would rather not permit it (though I know of no instances where a checked pistol and magazine have ever conspired to shoot anyone).

Hollow points are not "dum-dums"..
Dum-dums are an outlawed type of ammo under geneva convention and even in the U.S., but are a "loaded" or explosive round.

"Lord...what a naive reporter."And an ignoramus, too! I guess the 230 grain .50 caliber bullets I use in my black powder deer rifle are called "tank busters" out east.

They will sure take down whitetail nicely....Barnes Powerbelts I assume?
My .50 inline (Winchester X-150) with a 1.5X6 Khales IR....I have several Pedersoli sidehammers too and a custom .50 handmade Appalachin burly maple long rifle I only shoot from the bench ...gingerly....and a slew of BP wheelguns.
I love this rifle...it's sort of like a single shot 45-70 you know.

I had a co-worker bitching about hollow point bullets once. I explained them to her this way: If you have to shoot a rapist in your house, if you shoot and miss, a hollow point bullet is not going to go through the walls of your house and then through the walls of your neighbors house. After she chewed on that for a while, she agreed that hollow points are a good thing.

Living in the People's Socialist Republic of CT I have to be familiar with teh laws up here in the Socialist states of the Northeast. In NJ possession of a magazine holding more that 15 rounds is a felony for those who are not police officers. Possession of pistol ammunition that is hollow point is a felony (again with an exclusion for LEO's). In New York City there are some handgun hollowpoint loads that are legal but most are not. Interstae travelers stopped on the NJ turnpike going from a state where such ammunition is legal to a state where such ammunition is not legal have been charged in NJ. I do not know the effect of Federal law on the final disposition of the cases but in some cases a felony plea bargain with no jail time has been ageed upon by those so charged.
It does add an element of risk for gunowners engaged in interstate travel. Detours in PA and NY add an even greater element of risk.

Yes, in New York and New Jersey. I don't know of any other states that ban hollow points. I would check with Massachusetts and Maryland.

Given the circumstances, that BP rifle would (hypothetically) work fine as a trade-up for an M-16A2 with an attached M-203 grenade launcher.

Just ask any such ditzes how a 9mm which "expands" to .40 caliber is any worse than a .45 hardball?

It sounds like the "gun owner's protection act" isn't much help in NJ or NY, if transiting gun owners have been arrested and forced into felony plea bargains.
This really sucks, BIG TIME.
