[history]
I recently moved my family from the rugged blue-collar city neighborhood of Brookline to the palmy suburbs of Shaler. The move was mostly for a bigger house, but also to escape the crime and drugs beginning to permeate my community. After several trips and several hundred boxes being unloaded, I settled in to my new life. My wife and I had done all the research and checked out the school district for crime and, most importantly, for multilevel marketers -- we found nothing. Surely, my family would be safe here.

Darn: I thought it was another of those pot stories!

It's always funny when city folks move to the suburbs (as long as they're not moving to your suburb, of course). But it's even funnier when suburban folks move to the country and discover that they have to use a well, have a septic tank, and--horrors!--do their own trash-hauling. It's SO tiresome when the county takes three days to plow out the road after a major snowstorm. Then there are all those icky smells from the neighbors' cattle and horses; can't those horrid animals just stand there and look picturesque without, you know, pooping? And do they have to moo and neigh in the small hours of the morning? Also, why can't they build a Starbacks out here at Rickety Crossroads so the village will be a little more chic, and we won't all have to drive so far to get our low-fat soy decaf lattes?

But as a stand-up comedian, you'd think he'd save the best punch line for last!

The only time I saw a palm tree was the one some jagoff took (make that hauled) home from a Jimmy Buffet concert. It never made it through the winter!

I had the same problem (grass height) when I moved from Mt. Washinton to Mt. Lebanon.

Definately, compared to Brookline. I was afraid to let my kids swim in the pool there.
