I got to know a guy through another completely different social circle who was VERY close-mouthed about his job from which he'd retired. It was all I could do to pry it from him that he was a retired Secret Service agent having served since guarding Hubert Humphrey in the 1968 campaign (i.e. Chicago convention riots, et al). All he would do when I said stuff like, "I bet you've seen a lot more than you'll EVER be able to talk about, huh?!" would be to wink and smile. This friend of mine, who'd retired when George HW Bush left the WH, told me that the Secret Service personnel serving the Clinton WH years (with whom he kept contact after retiring) really did loathe them but their code of honor of course dictates that they will not say ANYTHING about the people they're assigned to guard, either now or later (until they die, I would guess).
