Muslim group threatens to kill the Pope
Jerusalem Post ^ | Jun. 7, 2003 | THE ASSOCIATED PRESS

Posted on 06/07/2003 3:08:11 AM PDT by yonif

Croatia's state-run news agency HINA reported Friday that it and a Croatian Catholic news agency had received e-mails threatening to kill Pope John Paul II "in the name of Allah."

The e-mails, signed by the "Islamic Front of el-Mujahadeen" and addressed to "the infidels," appeared to have originated in neighboring Bosnia, said Interior Ministry spokeswoman Zinka Bardic.

She said Croatian and international police agencies were investigating, but that there was no danger to the pontiff because of the heavy security around him.

Papal spokesman Joaquin Navarro-Valls told reporters aboard the pope's plane Saturday that the Vatican receives such threats "from time to time" and turns them over to local authorities.

He indicated there would be no changes in the pope's schedule in Croatia.

John Paul was holding a Mass on Saturday in Osijek, just over the border from predominantly Orthodox Serbia. Organizers were preparing for up to 200,000 pilgrims from Croatia and Serbia as well as neighboring Bosnia and Hungary.

"Unfortunately, there are more than a few Freepers who would join the Muslims for this."

TomB, this was once true, and I actually switched to Lucianne.com out of disgust. I stayed away for over a year. But since I've started lurking again, it seems like the bigots and other knuckle-draggers have been either ejected or silenced. I've noticed almost NO inappropriate comments about Catholics, Mormons, Blacks, etc, or at least no such comments that were allowed to remain by the moderators.

Believe me, I'm a cradle-Catholic and one of the hypersensitive ones to *unfair* insults to our beloved Church. But FreeRepublic is a great place for Conservative Catholics to join in. I feel total solidarity here with the Protestants and Jews and all others who love this country and back our President.

BTW, check out www.catholicleague.org for a great "Anti-defamation league" for Catholics. If nothing else, it'll make you feel better because you'll see you're not alone in the cold, cruel, liberal, corrector-than-thou world! :-)

SSSSHHHHHHHHHHHH!

You're not supposed to report stuff like this! What's the matter with you?!?!?! This could make people think bad things about Muslims!

ISLAM IS A "RELIGION OF PEACE"[tm]! How many damn times do you all have to be told?!?!?!

The Pope should declare another crusade against them and their vile, murderous religion. A few crusades in the medieval period and we didn't hear a peep out of the b@st@rds for another six hundred years. Might be time for da Papa to call for another one.

Thanks for the link. Been there-done that. ;_)

Actually, you are essentially correct, most of the real Catholic bashers are either purged or, shall we say, silent. To this day, though, I see names on threads that I just don't respond to because I know what they stand for.

You'd get no argument from me. As far as I'm concerned, and at the risk of seeming "unenlightened," Islam is a pernicious blight on humanity and can be eradicated from the face of the earth.

Just for the record - I am Catholic. I think the way the Vatican has mis-handled the homosexual abuse of young men by priests within the Church is abhorrent. The term "pedophilia" - in MY opinion - is used mainly to turn the discussion away from the fact that the Church has a very large homosexual community within the priesthood.

I was very angry when the Pope came out with a statement pro-UN when we were preparing to go into Iraq. Once he gets his "own house" under control, perhaps I will listen to his prononcements regarding world conditions more favorably.

I think the condition of the Catholic Church in America is very tenuous and for all of the Bishops' meetings, etc., very few of those responsible for the despicable actions have been brought to any sort of justice. The Diocese of Phoenix now has the State of Arizona as a participant in running it, for God sake!!

I personally know a man who was molested in his teens by one of the "Holy" priests. He is now in his 40's and his life has been ruined. So, I say, let the Pope deal severely with those within the Church BEFORE telling America how it should deal with the UN. AND, by that, I am NOT advocating that anything happen to the man.

" bombed the Chinese embassy"

That embassy was accidentally hit cause NATO decided THEY would be in control of "military operations" and made our (USA) planes fly no lower than 35,000 feet, making targets much more difficult to hit. Besides, wasn't Gen Clarke in control of the NATO forces there at that time? isn't a wonder the bombing went astray.

Isn't it interesting that even after that incident, it did NOT result in an international (ie Chinese) reaction that expanded the hostilities there? We apologied and China accepted it.

All due respect but I dont care. If they kill him they kill him.

I kinda detach myself from individuals who set themselves against decency, freedom and reality.

Welcome back. I've only been here a few months, with limited time to be on, but I have noticed a distinct lack of racial and religious undertones in the threads, which is a good thing. Well, with the expection of the muslim/islamic fundamentalists. If I had, I wouldn't have kept coming back.

THIS thread is the most religious-oriented one Ive seen here and puts the conservative issues aside and many just ranting about the catholics being bad guys. Personally, I think the Palesinians are the bad guys, along with the aforementioned extremist islamic crowd. But last I looked, the PLO was not a religious organization.

I'm not Catholic, but I do like the pope.

It would be a blunder of monumental proportions for the islamists to commit this crime. I do believe that there are more Catholics than muslims, worldwide.

"Unfortunately, there are more than a few Freepers who would join the Muslims for this."

I doubt it seriously. But I am sure you'd find many FReepers who were complacent about it. To me...the pope is worse than Chirac or Schroeder.

They are European politicians and we expect completely asinine statements, concepts and philosophies from them. The pope is supposed to be a Christian who suffers children to come unto the Lord not allow them to be fresh meat for his clergy. The pope is supposed to want freedom & Liberty for all mankind...not fall inline with some Worldy socialistic utopian effeminate dream.

If the Lord sees fit to let him go down...who am I to disagree.

Wait, the Pope kissed a Koran, calling it Holy. He proclaimed Allah is the same God of Christians. He has opposed the war on terrorism...why would Muslims want to kill such a friend?

(This is a rhetorical question)

The pope is foul

That statement of yours suggests to me that someone else may be foul. I think some other persons might well reexamine their own ideology.
