If I believed for one nano-second that the Monica affair surprised or hurt Hillary I would feel sorry for her. It was so surprise and she did not care. Dick Morris said Hillary has known since at least 1988 that Bill fools around. That is when Bill called him upset that Hillary had caught him in an affair and said she was so upset that they might divorce. Dick offered a vacation home for Bill to stay in for a while, till Hillary cooled down. Back then, she may have actually been shocked and hurt, she may have still cared about Bill then. Not any more.
She might not have been shocked by yet another affair, but I'm sure she was furious with him over this one. It's like I tell liberal acquaintances who say that it was "just a little sex, all Presidents do it." I counter that it was Clinton's chief vulnerability during the 1992 campaign, they all remember Gennifer Flowers. With Jay Leno and David Letterman making jokes nightly about Clinton being a womanizer, why would he hand his political enemies the one thing they wanted most? I continue with, "Personally, I'm glad he did it. His agenda was not my agenda, but if his political inclinations were more in line with your own, YOU are the one who needs to be disappointed with him!"
I go on to mention welfare reform, if its somebody I suspect thinks welfare is OK. I point out that Clinton wouldn't have had to give away so much to the Republicans if he had only kept his scandals in the pre-Presidential period of his life. A dazed look goes over their faces as what I say sinks in.
Surely, in a split second, Hillary must have realized what Monica Lewinsky meant to her dreams of national domination. Whether that split second occurred in January when the affair first came up, or just about the time of the DNA tests that put it beyond the he-said, she-said range, I have no doubts that it enraged her. Personally, I believe that she was so shell-shocked by the time the affair first broke, that she was ready to believe The Bent One's denials. It would have made her rage all the more when she realized that she had been made the world's biggest fool. I guess I just like having that image of her!
