SAN FRANCISCO -- Democratic presidential candidate Bob Graham said Wednesday that President Bush would be held accountable if evidence shows that intelligence on Iraq's weapons program was intentionally manipulated to justify war.
Graham, a three-term Florida senator and former governor, said political manipulation of intelligence information is just one possible explanation for why an extensive weapons program in Iraq has yet to surface. But he said responsibility would fall directly on the president if such manipulation occurred.
"In our system of government, the president is ultimately accountable -- whether it's his decision, or the decisions of those responsible to the president," Graham said after attending a health policy forum at the University of California, San Francisco.
"It would raise serious questions about the political leadership that engaged in that manipulation and the misleading of the American people."
The Bush administration has come under criticism as military search teams combing suspected weapons sites have failed to uncover the stockpile of chemical or biological weapons that officials had said were hidden throughout Iraq. So far, just two mobile vans have been found, which may have been designed to make biological weapons.
Administration officials had focused on Iraq's suspected weapons program, plus Saddam Hussein's alleged support for terrorists, as part of their case for going to war. Intelligence officials have defended their assessments of the Iraqi threat and scoffed at suggestions they were tweaked for political gain.
Graham, who until last year was chairman of the Senate Intelligence Committee, also decried what he called a "pattern of hiding information" by the administration leading up to the war.
Tracey Schmitt, a Republican Party spokeswoman, scoffed at Graham's comments.
"Senator Graham sounds increasingly more like a conspiracy theorist than a presidential candidate," Schmitt said. "Whether it's national security or the strength of the economy, the Democrats' best hope seems to be to hope for the worst."
On Capitol Hill in Washington, another presidential candidate, Rep. Dennis Kucinich of Ohio, said he wants the White House to provide Congress with evidence to support administration claims about Iraq's weapons of mass destruction.
Kucinich said he will introduce a resolution of inquiry today asking for the evidence to back up 10 statements made by Bush, Vice President Dick Cheney, Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld and White House press secretary Ari Fleischer from Aug. 26, 2002 through March 30, 2003.

Poor Bob! All this Bush-bashing and he can't get over 1% in voter recognition...the price he pays for lying! My sincere hope is that he gets the nomination so that Florida can elect at least one honest US Senator.

The fact that Dennis Kucinich is on-board with this immediately proves it is ridiculous.

"In our system of government, the president is ultimately accountable -- whether it's his decision, or the decisions of those responsible to the president," Graham said Hey Boob .. you best go after Clinton also for his attack on Iraq in 1998 because he had the same intellegence information on WMD

Hey Bob, nobody's listening to you.

Graham once had a good reputation as a decent man. Boy is he blowing it now!!! The Democrats never learn (heh! heh!).
This is typical Bush.....let them rant and stew and show themselves to be such fools.....then we present the world with the facts. Let them draw out this WMD thing until just before the election.....then blow them away. That will keep them busy in the meantime....thinking they have something.
They really are a bunch of fools! Can you imagine having these guys in charge of the country in times like this?!

Graham is screaming for recognition. Stomping his feet, waving his arms all around like a madman. Sadly, for Bob, no one is paying attention to him. Must drive him crazy.

Well he's getting it!!!! CIA is bringing over over 4 FOOT high stack of CLASSIFIED documents to bavk up the WMD!!!! Now, who wants to make a bet and see which congressman or senator leaks the classified information first??????

The President is ultimately responsible for all acts committed by everyone in his administration?
Did this apply to Bubba "The Buck Never Got Here" Clinton?
Clinton wasn't responsible for Craig Livingston ... because nobody could prove who hired him!
Maybe they should have arrested Bubba and held him responsible for Admiral Boorda's violation of the law when he committed suicide.
All I know is, the Clintons have taken all of the oxygen away from the Democrats, so only those candidates who don't need oxygen are around and they are as ugly as anything you'd find at the bottom of the ocean.
Kucinich and Graham? That's not even a sick joke!

I am so sick of these dirtbag Democrats trashing our valiant warriors in Iraq. Because that is what they are doing. The guys who are still bathing in baby wipes and dodging RPGs, are apparently not working fast enough for these creeps. The Coot and the Kook are repulsive.

You now why hitlary's book came out now...and clintoon's is coming out right before the voting next year?????? They DON'T want a democrat to win this time around!!!!! That way hitlary couldn't run in 2008 against an jackass president!!!! Past that Hitlary would be getting up there in years, think about it, she isn't aging well now, if she had to wait until 2012, that would not be a pretty site. So...2008 is her only shot! They want Bush to win again, it suits their purposes.

Doesn't it make you sick watching all these bottem feeders set and sweep their greedy eyes to and fro, searching panicly for any small scrap of information they deem important to their unending search for any thread of hope to smear our President. My only concern is when their appetite can't be appeased with legless facts they will indulge in fakery and planting lies as the previous administration did.

Graham says Bush liable for any altered intelligence This title is too inviting. Let's go with:
"But Graham, you don't have any intelligence to alter!"

"But Graham, you don't have any intelligence to alter!" Not to mention that I lose intelligence points every time I hear or read something from this liar.
My fondest hope is that he gets the nomination, Florida finally gets to elect an honest senator and we send "Everyman" Bob home to his multi-millionaire farming, ranching and real estate development interests.

Bump to getting this Bush-bashing Dem party first guy out of the Senate. This guy needs to take off the tin foil and understand that our nation is under siege, and HE'S NOT HELPING.

they just asked Rummy about the WMDs and if we can't find them is it too early to say victory. He said, we can't find Saddam, and nobody says he doesn't exist. This guy rocks!
