Yeah, after the damage is done, they retract it. How many people read the original misstatements and didn't see the retraction?

Agreed on the Straw and Powell at the Waldorf story, but the Wolfowitz "war for oil" story they actuall pulled pretty quickly. It had only been picked up by a few other sites, one being a Pacifica Radio show and another an Islamist website. The only other real news sources I found it in was the lefty Utne Reader, and a South African news site. By the time I got around to posting the later, I reflexively hit "refresh" only to find an announcement that the story was false and The Guardian would be retracting.

If you want to keep an eye out for where the story might still pop up, here is a google news search for "wolfowitz" plus "guardian":
