Blumenthal's Book Contradicts Hillary's
NewsMax.com ^ | June 4, 2003 | Carl Limbacher

In her new book "Living History," New York Senator Hillary Clinton says she was so angry after her husband admitted having sex with Monica Lewinsky that she barely spoke to him.

But her account differs sharply from that of her chief defender, Sidney Blumenthal, who says in his own recently released book, "The Clinton Wars," that Bill and Hillary were "bantering" back and forth just two days after the silent treatment supposedly started.

In excerpts of her book covered by the Associated Press, Mrs. Clinton claims that on Aug. 15, 1998, after her husband confessed that his relationship with Lewinsky was "more serious than he had previously acknowledged," she felt "nothing but profound sadness, disappointment and unresolved anger."

"I could barely speak to Bill, and when I did, it was a tirade," the former first lady insists.

But Blumenthal says that on Aug. 17, 1998 - immediately after Mr. Clinton told the nation that he had lied to protect his wife and daughter, the president called him to ask about his reaction to the speech.

After telling Clinton he thought it went "all right," Hillary got on the line. "I told her the same," wrote the former White House aide.

After they spoke, Mrs. Clinton handed the phone to James Carville, who was also on hand to gauge the damage. But Blumenthal says he could still hear the voices of others in the room.

"I could hear the President and Hillary bantering in the background," the top Clinton spinmeister recalled on page 465 of his scandal tome.

Blumenthal says he was relieved to discover that the first couple "were still working as a team."

"Without that, nothing was possible," he said.

Hillary, however, says that she was still giving Bill the cold shoulder even after they left the White House for a vacation on Martha's Vineyard.

"While on the island, she felt 'nothing but profound sadness, disappointment and unresolved anger,'" Mrs. Clinton wrote, according to the AP. "Buddy, the dog, came along to keep Bill company," Hillary claims. "He was the only member of our family who was still willing to."

I don't see a contradiction in the accounts:

"I could barely speak to Bill, and when I did, it was a tirade," the former first lady insists.

Isn't this Hillary's standard way of communicating?

Seriesly, the problem they have in dealing with this is that in actuality, everyone from Hillary! on down had spent half their adult lives trying to cover up Bill's bimbo eruptions. Nobody was shocked that he'd been nailing Monica, and nobody was fooled. One of the areas where Bill Clinton was very much like JFK is that he wasn't very discerning about who he nailed, and didn't worry nearly enough about the possibility of the female talking. Eventually, it will come out that every female that entered the White House was servicing either Bill or Hill. But like everything else about the Clintons, it will come out in dribs and drabs.

Another contradiction. The Slickster claimed he lied to protect the Constitution. Can't these people get their bogus stories straight?

Hmmm! Hillary's and Blumenthal's lies don't coincide. Now that's news. I guess when they are no longer in the White House they don't have any way to coordinate their lies.

Hillary doesn't care who or what Bill does.

It's when he gets caught there's a problem.

How about the female body count parallel? At least two of JFK's lovers were murdered. Clinton - look at the list. One of the strange ones is the female intern caught with Lady Macbeth. Hillary hit the guy who walked in on them with an ashtrash, as the FBI agent recounted in his book. Soon after the intern was murdered in a very strange attack on a business.

Sorry about the lack of details. I don't have the sources next to me.

"She knew before it broke."

Of course, she knew!

Remember the picture of those two dancing on the beach on some Caribbean Island? That was a set up photo op that was published just weeks before the Monicas story broke. IIRC, the press didn't make any noise about the picture, so the Clinton's minions in the White House feigned outrage that the pic would be published. And, THAT guaranteed that the pic would be all over the news.

It was a set up to "prove" they were happy and in love, and there was nothing wrong in their "marriage".

Very strange if Hillary's people didn't get to vet Blumenthal's manuscript.

Rick Blaine: How can you close me up? On what grounds?
Captain Louis Renault: I'm shocked, shocked to find that gambling is going on in here!
[A croupier hands Renault a pile of money]
Croupier: Your winnings, sir.
Captain Louis Renault: [sotto voice] Oh, thank you very much.

"Shades of a "Mad" universe - "Lie vs Lie"."

Thanks for the laugh - especially the imagery of a black-hatted Hitlery rolling a lit bomb behind a white-hatted Blumenthal...

You nailed it ! Right on the head. We will never know what really happened. I have visions of a confrontation where Hillary told Bill that he owes her BIG TIME . . . akin to extortion, but not really. Just private and personal husband and wife talk. Bill and Hill feed off each other. The 'Monica story' gives Hillary much more clout with women voters. Almost like Bill planned the whole episode. Not the same as Hillary's very personal 'coming out' report -- which will never be told in her lifetime.

Strange how the truth about John F. Kennedy is being leaked to the press just as Hillary is planning her move to run for the presidency, isn't it ? Yesterday there was a new report in the Enquirer that JFK has an illegitimate son. 'Timing is all' quoth the Bard.

Since they're both compulsive liars (out of necessity, as well as practice), I don't believe either one of them to tell me the correct time. You don't have to pick one lie over the other -- neither story is the "truth".
