LOS ANGELES (AP) - Opponents of the Republican-led campaign to recall Democratic Gov. Gray Davis reported Tuesday collecting $344,000 in donations, including $50,000 from Univision president and chief executive A. Jerrold Perenchio.
Perenchio is one of California's top political donors and spreads his wealth among Democrats and Republicans. He gave nearly $5 million to candidates and causes in 2001-2002, including more than $1 million to the Republican Party and its candidates for governor and at least $500,000 to Davis.
