New York Times publisher Arthur Sulzberger Jr. travels to Washington today, trying to douse flames of discontent in a bureau that was suspicious of New York even before the Gray Lady was in a full-blown crisis.

This meeting will leak like a sieve. There is no way that one or more of these folks won't call someone at The Washington Post.

The Schadenfreude Festival continues!

The firing of disgraced reporter Jayson Blair May 1 for plagiarism and fraud, followed by the resignation last week of Pulitzer Prize-winner Rick Bragg for improper use of a stringer, have left the newsroom exhausted and fed up with Raines' leadership. Some Times insiders say just about everyone in the newsroom now wants Raines and Managing Editor Gerald Boyd out. They complain that Raines is an egomaniac and Boyd isn't up to the job.

Boyd not up to the job?............Get outta here.

Do I detect unpolitical incorrectness in the Times news rooms?

They also say Raines has alienated staffers by playing favorites, and by being rude and arrogant.

Heh.

"But dumping Raines will require Sulzberger to acknowledge he made a mistake and we all know he's too infantile and petty to do that."

Good, keep the fire burning, Pinchy.

Rude and arrogant? Raines?

Now I ask you? Where's all that liberal "tolerance and compassion?" Huh?
