Within a few days after having a baby, a woman should start to produce milk (barring post-birth complications). It's a "use it or lose it" deal, the more a mom nurses, the more milk she makes When she quits breastfeeding, they dry up :-)

My sister-in-law got so into it with the pumping/freezing thing, she stockpiled mountains of little baggies. Between that and the "mice cubes" for their reptiles, you didn't want to look in their freezer.
