She was given those diamonds by her grandmother; they belong to HER. And in most states the wedding rings belong to the bride.

Yes, the rings belong to the bride, but upon her death her estate belongs to the husband. Imagine this was some other kind of death or if Scott is innocent (at this point he is). The parents have no *right* to any of her things, the husband does. It would be kind to return them, but he doesn't have to. And the Rochas had no *right* to take them.
