The more plausible explanation is that he did not have any large stockpiles of weapons of mass destruction

one of the single most ignorant things I have read in a loooooooong time.

and you forgot the "barf alert"

Enter stage right (far right) his deputy, Paul Wolfowitz, a man of such ferociously reactionary opinion that he has at least the advantage to his department of making Rumsfeld appear reasonable. He has now disclosed: "For bureaucratic reasons we settled on weapons of mass destruction because it was the one issue everyone could agree on.''

Robin Cook -- Another Victim of the Vanity Fair devious trickery

What Wolfowitz Really Said: The truth behind the Vanity Fair "scoop."

And a thread that has many links to articles on this WMD topic:

IRAQ: Powell Defends Information He Used to Justify Iraq War

And an article with much discussion on all of this:

IRAQ: Weapons of Mass Disappearance - (Where are the WMD? Manipulation to go to War? )

It seems to be that the Liberals' only answer to Conservative positions is to misquote them or to twist facts.
In the US, that hasn't been working. The majority "get it". But it has been working in Europe. That's sad, but at least we have a Pres. who doesn't crave popularity in Europe.

"ROBIN COOK: BRITAIN MUST NOT BE SUCKERED A SECOND TIME BY THE WHITE HOUSE"

If this means that next time we won't have to wait for months and months while our allies wring their hands and debate then I concur heartily.

Nerve agents of good quality have a shelf life of about five years

Oh good! Then Britain doesn't have to worry about the Nazi nerve gas left over from WWII that was dumped in the Balkins (in the sea) that the enviros are saying will pollute the sea because the canisters are leaking. Guess Tony could tell his Labor party that there's nothing to worry about because Robin Cook says it's expired.

It will be interesting to see how much credibility grows out of the end of a gun barrel. Relying on 'secret intelligence' and promises comes a cropper.
