[history]
A firefighter battles a wildfire near Sisters in July 2002. Dry conditions have Oregon and other western states bracing for another potentially dangerous wildfire season.
Fire conditions are not as bad as they were in 2002, but a five-year drought in the West fuels danger.

You beat me to the ping. There may be some on my list that are not on yours and vice versa.
I was in Sisters last year in July. Went for the annual quilt show. They had a lecture going on in a school auditorium. No airconditioning and 102. This was 7 pm. Set off the fire alarm it was so hot in the building with all those people in there. Luckily it was lecture I had heard before, I chose to remain outside for the duration.

The strategy in Oregon seems to be, let vital services suffer budget shortfalls so tax advocates can make an issue for increases. This is another in a barrage of pieces predicting doom and hinting that it is due to state budget shortfalls - less officers on the streets, cuts in highway and bridge repairs, rescue services diminished, people will die, criminal will be released, fires will scorch the countryside, drunk-drivers chasing your children, homeless people without homes, dogs and cats living together...
...and yet, entitlement services and government payrolls are untouchable.
And the true culprits - inept State, and Local officials -will never be held accountable for the budget crises that they foster.

My list is pretty small although I'm sure there are a few doublers in there.
Gonna be a "hot year". Too bad it took so long to get the thinning legislation thru, I think it's already to late to save this year.

Well folks this is what years of Forest mismanagment will get you. The Enviromental Laws have cut the legs out from under those whose job it is to maintain our national forests.
PS: Isn't it interesting that the only time I have heard of a fire at a privately managed tree farm is when it was set purposely, usually by enviro-terrorists like ELF? Could it possible be that professionals, with college degrees in Forest Managment, have a whole lot better idea of how to manage the forest land than unwashed enviro-A'holes like Tre' Arrow and his stinky ilk?

But Democrats and environmental groups contend the legislation would let logging companies cut old-growth trees over large stretches of forest and not do anything to reduce the threat of fire for people living near forests. They would rather see the trees burn than go to good uses.
Don't environmentalists realize trees are "renewable resources"?????

Don't environmentalists realize trees are "renewable resources"?????Even an imbicile understands that truth. Therefore we are left with the only other option, they know but for some reason have decided to ignore it. What could that reason be???

For those freepers out east I'm hear to tell you that many westerners - Coloradians esp. are MAD AS H**L at the enviro nuts.
In case you didn't know the fires in Colorado last year were on Federal lands. State lands have a program that thins the forests.
To: The_Pickle
There is no such thing as "our national forests" legally....think about that.

Don't environmentalists realize trees are "renewable resources"????? You mean the same lefty environmentalists who believe that 100 years of weather records can be used to model 6 billion years of climatic change?

Last season, 23 firefighters across the country were killed, though none on the fire line. Not true. One firefighter at the Missionary Ridge fire here died on the line when a tree fell on him.

You mean the same spotted owl that is no longer endangered and in actuality never belonged on the list....nah, never was about the frickin owl.
But that brings up a nice parallel....sumthin I read about keeping the populace in a constant state of fear that was usefull in control...
