The reason why the tide is turning is because rational people are coming to realize that there is nothing "freedom loving" about these people. The problem with liberals is they are NOT liberal.

Actually I agree completely. When conversing with leftists, I pepper my speech with references to the "progressive" policies of the Bush (and retrospectively the Reagan) adminstration(s). I talk about conservatives "reclaiming and advancing the values of liberalism," note the that left-radicals running inteference for murderous and illiberal regimes is "nothing new," and so on.
In addition to being true, it has the added advantage of driving them nuts.
