California proves a golden valley for undocumented immigrants

Thousands arrive illegally from Mexico into California each year. Our state is now home to 40 percent of all of America's immigrants, lawful and not.

Business profits greatly from the aliens' much-needed labor - even as the brave newcomers are often resented by millions of other Californians for coming in such numbers and under unlawful circumstances. Although illegal immigrants are eager to receive a fighting chance to succeed in America, many are neither immersed into nor prepped for our cutthroat competitive culture.

California has had it.... it's like a great big Tijuana. Bankrupt, lawless, gang infested, and run by imbeciles and fifth columnists.

Objective data cannot tell us whether California is saved or lost because of illegal immigration.

Aw, come on! It doesn't take a rocket scientist to figure this one out. You mean these people haven't figured out why California is broke, doctors are fleeing the state, there is a skyrocketing crime rate and the taxes keep going up, up, up?

Should we be blaming poor, uneducated illegal immigrants on a problem that is fundementally our own fault?

Is it their fault that we bend over backwards to accomodate them, instead of encouraging them to assimilate?

Is it their fault that our multi-cultural lobbies have ruined the education of illegals and their kids?

Is it their fault that our legislature has passed bills giving them in-state tuition rates?

Is it their fault that we have a system that doesn't admit them legally, even though we have plenty of work for them?

Seems to me the illegal immigrants have precious little to do with this. These problems are OUR fault, and WE can solve them. Sealing our borders is not going to fix the problems either, because they are OUR mistakes - not made by immigrants at all.

Bush courts California Hispanics, Gays

The Associated Press </MCC BYLINE1>
</MCC BYLINE2>

LOS ANGELES — George W. Bush is distancing himself from former Gov. Pete Wilson, who is among California's best-known Republicans but who remains a symbol of polarizing ethnic politics to Hispanics.

The de facto GOP presidential nominee is aggressively courting Hispanic votes, and used his latest pitch to repudiate Wilson's immigration policies. The message drew a sharp response from a Wilson spokesman, who said it resembled Democratic attempts to ``demonize'' the two-term California governor.

Whereas Wilson warned darkly in a TV ad that illegal immigrants ``keep coming,'' Bush said he could relate to Mexicans who cross the border in search of a better life.

``If you're a mother or dad, and you're worried about feeding your children, and you can't find work close to home, and you hear of opportunities somewhere else, and you're worth your salt, you're coming.''

The Texas governor added that he believed in tough enforcement of the nation's borders, and said the long-term solution to the illegal immigration issue was to help Mexico's economy through free trade.

Wilson led the campaign six years ago for Proposition 187, which sought to remove illegal immigrant children from public schools.

Bush drew sustained applause when he cast himself as a leader who ``will not use our children, the children of immigrants, as a political issue in America.'' He said last year he opposed the ``spirit'' of Proposition 187, but wouldn't say Friday whether or not he would fight against a similar measure this year, should it make the ballot.

``It's so important to have leadership that tears down barriers, leadership that offers a future hopeful for everybody, leaders that reject the politics of pitting one group of people against each other,'' the Texas governor said.

Asked whether he would actively campaign with Wilson, Bush said tersely, ``I accept support from anybody,'' and cut off any follow-up by calling on another questioner.

When a reporter asked whether he would consider Wilson, who won statewide election four times in California, as a running mate, Bush dismissed the question as a joke: ``Good one,'' he said.

Wilson battled against affirmative action, bilingual education and illegal immigration during his years as California governor, from 1991 to 1999. Those fights alienated many Hispanic voters, who now constitute nearly 15 percent of the electorate in the nation's largest state.

While he never mentioned Wilson by name, Bush's remarks about immigration were clearly aimed at mending fences with Hispanics.

Aides said his remarks on inclusion and immigration were his most forceful to date.

His entourage included his half-Mexican nephew, George P. Bush, who was direct in describing the candidate's situation in California.

Among Hispanic voters, ``our biggest challenge will be to separate my uncle from the rest of the Republican Party,'' he said. The 23-year-old nephew is the son of Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

Bush Campaign Holds Hope in Calif.

PALO ALTO, Calif., Jun 20, 2000 (AP Online via COMTEX) -- See George W. Bush shake hands with Hispanics in the streets of Santa Ana. Hear Bush describe himself as a "new kind of Republican" who rejects using immigration as a divisive issue. Watch Bush run hard to catch Al Gore in a state that leans heavily Democratic.

The Republican presidential candidate is going back to basics in his bid to win California, spending time walking the streets of Democratic strongholds and focusing on key groups, including the 13 percent of voters who are Hispanic.

Bush returned to the state Monday on a three-day swing focused on education. Like Gore, he will speak at the National Council of La Raza conference in San Diego next month.

Two of his major targets: Hispanics alienated by Republican-sponsored immigration laws and conservative voters in southern California.

"I want to energize these people to come back," Bush said aboard his campaign plane Monday. "If I do, I think I can win."

Bush's state chairman, Gerry Parsky, is pushing frequent visits, appeals to Hispanics and women and unifying Republicans as the only way to capture the nation's biggest electoral prize.

A United Patriots of America Organization

Freepers Wanted as Volunteers!!!!!!!

If you are interested in being involved in 1 or more of these programs please go to the volunteer page and fill out the form and click it in to us.
In order to implement these programs your financial support is much needed. This is a grass roots organization and with out individual donations we cannot continue our mission.

1.Congressional drive by program
The UPA will set up a mobile office in front of the office of the local house representative in a congressional district. We then invite the community to drive by and stop in and sign petitions for making English the official language of the United States of America.

2. Campus speaking program - Education issue.
In coordination with the The Leadership Institute, a well respected conservative organization from Washington, the UPA will be sending speakers to college campuses to speak to the conservative clubs that the institute has organized around the country. They have hundreds of small conservative clubs and we want to provide them with support from the non-academic world. If you have any past speaking experience and wish to participate let us know on the volunteer page.

3. Textbook verification program - Education issue.
Parents and concerned citizens can send in the name, author and publisher of textbooks used in a classroom in their area and we can have it analyzed as acceptable or not through our contacts with the "Eagle Forum Education & Legal Defense Fund".
If unacceptable the members of that community with the help of the UPA and other organizations can proceed to have it replaced through the appropriate channels.

Send in by e-mail the information on the textbooks and we will have them rated.

4. Border patrol - Immigration issue.
For those adventuresome Patriotic vacationers or retirees we can arrange for you to spend a week on the Mexican border with a video recorder sending real time video of illegals crossing our borders unopposed, to the internet so americans can see what is really going on there. Let us know if your interested, it might be the most unusual vacation you've ever had. (Perhaps you could meet up with our Freepers on the border!)

6. Door to Door Recruiting.
We will be implementing a neigborhood door to door recruitment drive. UPA members will go and visit their neighbors, say hello, leave them some literature and ask them to support our cause.
We ask that all those interested  please register for this program.

I'm kind of tired of hearing that particular weasel phrase. They always use that when they want to make excuses for criminal aliens who have invaded our nation. The entire compassion/emotional/white guilt trip is getting tiresome in the extreme. I tend to be pretty compassionate and empathetic myself but hate to see these qualities used as a weapon against me. It's like I'm not allowed to say anything negative about a bunch of alien invaders whose only goal is to take as much as they can get and to hell with the Gringos. Enough ranting, I'll shut up now.

Let's not blame illegal aliens for some things that are not their fault.

California is "bankrupt" because of an unwise reliance upon all of the tax revenue it got from fat IT and dot-com salaries and option exercises ... not because of any radical shift in the costs or benefits of illegal aliens. Republicans in the legislature need to take their fare share of the blame for that -- they allowed several years worth of budget increases to go through funded only by this hundred-year-flood of revenue, when they should have limited budget growth to (at most) the permanent, non-cyclical growth in the underlying revenues.

I also can't see what relationship illegal aliens have to the way that the public-employees unions (whose members are all citizens and documented immigrants) have run roughshod over good governance.

Also, we need to recognize the way that the public expenditure on services to illegal aliens, while it may exceed the direct tax revenues they contribute, is (1) offset by the lower prices that goods and services have and (2) may be irrelevant, because low-wage citizens and documented immigrants consume a similar level of welfare benefits.

To me, the greatest problem is not the absolute expense, but the likely economic inefficiency that this subsidy represents -- we need to find a way to build back in the cost imposed upon the public of their social services into the goods and services they provide. Then, goods and services will have to be accurately priced -- i.e., if you employ as a busboy an illegal with six kids in the public schools, none of whom have health insurance, than the costs of their schooling and medical should be reflected in the cost of the caesar salads you sell, rather than adding an equal (if smaller) amount to the price of the food sold by ever merchant, as a result of higher taxes.

Don't shut up. You're so right.

BUT, could we please get the language accurate? It's not
'undocumented immigrunts' - It is illegal aliens!

From the article: Bush said he could relate to Mexicans who cross the border in search of a better life.

Bush (because he was born to rich parents) has never been a part of mainstream America. Thinking he can "relate to Mexicans" is a real stretch as far as I'm concerned.

We should end welfare and all the other government programs, get rid of all Socialism ---but that's going to be harder and harder to do with all the many more government dependent people who are coming in.

Also much of the fault lies with Mexico ---- ten years ago most of our illegals were living and working back in their homeland ---why have things become so bad for them in Mexico that they no longer have their jobs and homes there?

With the cost at over $7000 per year per child ---and more because bilingual ed and the free lunch program are very expensive programs, the kids alone without any medical care are going to cost taxpayers well over $42,000 a year until they demand their free scholarships to college which will then cost far far more. Throw in a few free trips to the doctors and/or hospitals and you can see that one family can end up costing way more than their $15,000 or less salary can contribute.

Exactly. Business profits from their labor while we, the taxpayers, foot the bill for their medical care, educations etc. We have to hold the employers of illegal aliens responsible for these costs. If they don't want to pay up, which I'm sure 95% of them won't, then the employers must be fined and prosecuted.
