Seems like they could well succeed in destroying scouting. If the Scouts do allow gay scoutmasters, a lot of parents will probably find something else for their boys to do, membership will decline, perhaps to very low levels.
If Scouts continue refusing to accept gay scoutmasters, it seems like the forces of political correctness (these days including churches, temples, local governments and school boards) will continue to ostracize them, perhaps until they are successfully demonized.
Scouts may well be screwed no matter what course they take.
The only hope that I see is that the kind of folks who want their kids in scouting are those who believe in absolute values, in other words, not "liberals."
He LOVED being a Boy Scout and learned many practical skills he continues to use to this day. He saw there was a different way of life than what he experienced at home. He saw that kids actually had dads who showed up at functions and liked being with their kids. These dads took care to help him, since his was never there. He decided that was the kind of father he would become. He learned about God and faith and being a good citizen and an honest, honorable man...things he'd never have experienced in a way that was positive, without Scouts.
How disgusting that this wholesome source of rescue is being taken away from today's kids living in similar circumstances.
Any Scouting parent opposing gay scoutmasters is vulnerable in cities with a sizable gay population.
If a parent takes a leadership role in opposing gay scooutmasters, it is fairly easy for opposing pro-gay elements to make trouble for them. All it takes is discovering where they work (pretty easy, since you usually have your office number listed in your kid's file as an emergency contact number), and then finding some gay people to notify in your company, who will then complain to HR about "this homophobe" creating a "hostile work environment".
By this means, it's fairly straightforward to silence the opposition
