Ala. Father Apparently Upset Over Marital Problems Kills His Three Children, Hangs Himself

GADSDEN, Ala. May 31 — A father apparently upset over marital problems killed his three children and hanged himself early Saturday in rural northeastern Alabama, authorities said.

William Eric Krost, 36, was found dead by his wife, Wendy, at about 7:30 a.m. after she returned home from a night out with friends, Etowah County Sheriff James Hayes said.

Investigators found the couple's children Brandon, 10, Ashley, 8, and Katherine, 4 dead in their beds, he said. The mother told police she had thought they were only sleeping.

"In my 31 years of law enforcement, I've never seen a more gruesome crime scene against children than I saw today," Hayes said. He would not say how the children were killed.

The couple was having marital problems and had been discussing divorce, Hayes said.

The deaths in the Tabor community north of Gadsden came just a week after a Gadsden couple and their 8-year-old daughter were stabbed to death. Police have arrested two men in connection with the killings, but no charges have been filed

Just an amateur guess (from a male), but I suspect that there are gender diffences in the
message the killer parent is sending "from beyond the grave".

Fortunately I don't understand this behaviour, but I suspect for males it's sort
of serves two purposes:
1. My troubles and those of all my personal family unit are finished.
2. Anybody who meddled in the situation...bet they are sorry now.

I guess my parents dragged me to church enough that I can't see either as being
acceptable. But I wouldn't tell my parents (unless it was an unguarded moment) that the
main reason I detest this sort of brutality (and lots of interpersonal cruelty/violence
comes from a scene in the movie "Oh, God".

It's the line that "G-d" (George Burns) utters when John Denver asks for a sign and
it starts raining...just in the car.
"Why do you do a sign like this?" the John Denver character asks.
G-d replies something like "You want a sign, so everyone else's day should
get ruined with rain?".

People just need to think more about the total global consequence of their
actions.
There would be a lot less of these sad murders/suicides...even if it means
more folks would just walk away and leave these situations in their past.
