Yes, it's true, the swelling in the hands does make the rings hard to wear. But you know what? I'd wager that with most women (talking about normal pregnancies here), the swelling comes on gradually enough that they don't THINK to take the rings off while they still can. I mean, they find themselves with the rings stuck on there, and realize they aren't going to be able to get them off easily until after the baby has been born and their hormones (and the fluid retention rate) have gone back to the normal level.

My thinking is that if those rings and diamonds given to Laci by her grandmother were actually taken to a jeweler to be put in a new setting, that it was Scaughty's idea to do so. This way, the rings/diamonds would be out of the way and in safe keeping for him to retrieve once he got rid of Laci. Then, once the hullaballoo was over, he'd get the stuff back and hock it. I think he is as delusional as his mother, and thought that he'd never get caught. Studies show that most criminals take chances and commit crimes because they don't think they'll be caught. It has to do with arrogance and as we all know, Scaughty is full of that.
