Richard Chamberlin GAY??? No, seriously, I heard that news about 25 years ago. Did he think he was kidding anybody? I used to laugh at all the old ladys in the office I used to work in when the made for TV movie "The Thornbirds" was fist shown 20 years ago. When I told them their lover-boy was gay, they blew a gasket and wouldn't believe me. NOW I STAND VICTORIOUS, and VINDICATED!! I love to destroy "false idols".

Yeah, next thing you know, we'll be hearing such vicious rumors about Jim Nabors, Raymond Burr or even Robert Reed. My late father worked in Hollywood in the early-mid 1960s, and it was no secret back then about any of the guys mentioned in this thread (Rock, Chamberlain, Reed, etc.) - it just came as a bit of a surprise to middle America when it finally came out.

I don't think Rock ever "outed himself". It was a well known fact in Hollywood that he was gay,

He didn't have to "out" himself. Anywhere he went the gay scene appeared with him. I remember him moving from one neighborhood because of the public gay activity at his place.

Why is this news? When I was kid watching Shogun on NBC I suspected that he was gay. It's been an open "secret" for decades.

I only posted this in culture and society, not breaking news. Mainly because it is a cultural news event, and he outed himself. I didn't put this in the front page, breaking news, whatever news column diliberately. Just thought it would bring discussion.

HONOLULU — More than four decades after he captured women's hearts on television's "Dr. Kildare," Richard Chamberlain has decided to reveal his identity as a gay man "because I'm not afraid anymore."

“I’m not a romantic leading man anymore so I don’t need to nurture that public image anymore,” the 69-year-old Chamberlain says in an interview to air Sunday on “Dateline NBC.”

“I can talk about it now because I’m not afraid anymore.”

The “Dateline” interview coincides with the publication of Chamberlain’s new memoir, “Shattered Love,” which will be released Tuesday by ReganBooks.

Chamberlain starred as television’s Dr. James Kildare from 1961-1966, and as Father Ralph, a love-torn priest, in the 1983 miniseries “The Thorn Birds.” He also starred in the 1974 movie “The Towering Inferno” and the 1980 miniseries “Shogun.”

“When I grew up, being gay, being a sissy or anything like that, was verboten,” said Chamberlain, who lives in Hawaii. “I disliked myself intensely and feared this part of myself intensely and had to hide it.”

Now, the actor says, everything is different.

He’s talking about his longtime partner, Martin; appearing in The Advocate magazine; and discussing his difficult childhood. “I love my life just the way it is. I’m proud of my relationship. I’m actually proud of myself,” Chamberlain said.

Oh, gosh, snickeroon, I remember the Evette Mimieux episodes, "Tyger, Tyger" was the title! Every time I saw Chamberlain in a show, I remembered that particular Dr. Kildare show. Remember how fake it looked when she was surfing-LOL! And crying my eyes out when she died. Oh, the good old shows.

Who the heck is next that needs to boost their career, a book, or just a burning desire to 'share' their lifestyle with us? My guess: Johnny Mathis

Those are simply words on paper. Again, please, an OBJECTIVE reason why your supernatural entity of choice should have primacy over any other supernatural entity. There are plenty of other scriptures out there, all claiming to be the only absolute truth. "Nuff said" doesn't count as objective evidence.
