I took the percentage the other way.

6% of the gunowners may be active in gun groups and that leaves 94% doing nothing but sitting on the sidelines complaining they get a letter once in a while asking for help.

I know many gunowners who pay their yearly NRA dues (if they aren't already lifetime members) but don't do anything else to help support the 2nd Amendment -- no writing of congressman, no signing of petitions, etc. They basically pay their $30 a year to get American Rifleman magazine, an NRA cap, and a sticker. Do you consider those types to be among the 6%?

Though an admittedly hardcore non-joiner, I am a long time NRA member. Recently, I told them to take me off their call list. I regularly pay my dues and contribute when I feel the need, but I have more important things to occupy my time than to hang out with Bubba at a rally. LaPierre and his staff are well paid to lobby on my behalf. If and when I see the need to shoulder my .308 in defense of domestic freedom, I'll not hesistate to do so. Not everyone has to be a zealot for the protections to remain in place.
