MULTAN, Pakistan - An Islamic militant accused of helping to plan the kidnapping and killing of Wall Street Journal reporter Daniel Pearl was arrested at a bus station in central Pakistan on Thursday, police said.

The suspect, Qari Abdul Hai, who allegedly had close ties with the Taliban, is the chief of a banned militant group condemned by the United States as a terrorist organization, police said. The group has been accused of involvement in bombings at public places in Pakistan.

Put this whack on a Navy ship, beat info out of him until satisfied, then make him take a walk.

I'd like to hear the status of those appeals by the convicted Pearl killers. I haven't heard a word since last autumn.

What's up with calling terrorists militants? In the last few days i've seen a number of media outlets use the term militant interchangeably with terrorist.

I know a guy who's a successful lawyer in Pakistan (he got tired of managing a Qwik-E-Mart here in America). I think he does corporate law, but I'll get an email for him and see if he knows anything.

I'm sure the status is known in Pakistan, but I quit looking at their newspapers after the war crisis with India ended early last year.

But it's kind of odd that no American newspaper has run an update lately. They probably won't run anything until the appeals decision is announced.

They're all busy covering Laci Peterson.

Good God. I so wish I could say, "Laci Who?" That crapola drives me up the wall. We don't have enough "'reality' television" that we need it on the news too?

I haven't read anything in so long about the Pearl case, I figured Pakistan had totally blown it off and that Sheikh Omar had "escaped" from prison.

Certainly there are extremely hostile elements within Pakiston, and doubtless still some within the government (esp in connection with terrorism in Kashmir), but overall the Pakistanis have done a marvelous job in helping to round up terrorists. I suspect they are cooperating as or more closely with American CIA and/or FBI as any Islamic country. They have probably arrested (or wasted) more islamic terrorists than any other country on the globe (of course part of that is a wealth of targets). We shouldn't forget that Pakistani intelligence, military and police risk their lives almost daily pursuing terrorists. Police, and even privately retained security guards, have also died or been wounded defending Christian or minority Shia churches, schools and mosques.

The Pakis also seem to know how to get tongues wagging. Here is a follow up on the perp in question:

That's just what they call the worst of them. They call Palestinian Prime Minister Mahmoud Abbas a moderate.

And you won't.

The USG won't ask for his extradition now. The murder of Pearl goes unavenged; and Omar sits in his jail cell, under the protection of the ISI and the generals who plotted Pearl's murder.

Pearl Who?
