We know Jimmy Hoffa went to lunch in New Jersey with his... business, yeah, that's it... business friends. Where is Jimmy? We even have a pretty good idea where he is (the Giants endzone).
On this note we actually have evidence. In the late 80's while playing at Giants Stadium, the great Jerry Rice caught a pass and proceeded to burn the Giants secondary(I believe Toast himself, Elvis Patterson was on coverage)running towards what seemed to be a sure TD. However as he crossed the 27 yard line he inexplicably fumbled the ball away. The ball literally seemd to jump from his hands as if knowcked away. Now I have seen this happen on at least 2 other occasions and friends and family refer to this episode as the Hoffa play. Jimmy Hoffa is buried on the 27 yard line of the east end of Giants Stadium and not the endzone itself.
I am a die hard niners fan (I was even in attendance at "the game" with "the catch" from Montana to Clark) and I remember this play. I like this explanation. It's also in keeping with Jimmy's character and sense of humor. It makes the play not so hard to take (g)
Forty (blanking) Niners!!!
Of course now that I live in Tennessee I have split loyalties. I'll have more trouble this year as I spent several hours talking to a really nice young kid, Tyrone Calico, on a flight back from SF to Memphis after he had attended the west coast NFL combine and my family had been vacationing (visiting Grandma and Grandad). He's now been drafted by the Tennessee Titans, so I'll have alot invested in that team this season.
I grew up conflicted. I was born in Texas (Dallas) but raised outside New York City (Scarsdale). I always followed and rooted for the Giants, except when they played "my" cowboys. Coach Sherman lived in Scarsdale, along with folks like Frank Gifford. Through my Dad my older brother and I actually got to go up to Yale New-Haven for the Giants training camp a couple of times. My brother (BMOC in high school) even went out for some passes from YA Tittle. Somewhere in my keepsakes I have a yellow legal pad with tons of signatures from that team.
Kyle Gifford, Franks son, was in my home room in high school and I even fought him across the line in scrimmages on the JV team.
Dallas was always my first love, though. I was (am) a Texan. Dandy Don, the ice bowl (hate those Packers), Tom Landry. When my brother was looking at colleges he went up to Yale and roomed with a kid from the town next to ours, Calvin Hill. When they came back Cal stayed at our house while his folks were out of town. A few years later he was a Cowboy. A CONNECTION!!! (which also connects me to Hillary, Cal Hill's wife's college roomate, as well as their son Grant Hill, of the NBA - who says it takes 6 degrees?).
Then I got married and my wife and I ended up in SF. I began to get hooked on the team, particularly guys like Montana and Clark, Hacksaw and Dwight Hicks and his hot licks. I was fine as long as none of "my teams" played each other, then I went into melt down. I finally came down as a Niners fanatic when the Niners played the Cowboys for the NFC championship in SF. We had waited out in the parking lot for days in order to get tickets. They weren't much but they were in the stadium. But I had to decide, before we went in, who I was for. I chose the Niners. I've been a fanatic ever since.
Then came the night of my eye surgery (a corneal transplant). My dad was hosting a business dinner where Roger Staubach was the guest speaker. At the cocktail party someone handed my dad a note that I was going into surgery. Staubach noticed and asked what was going on. He ended up writing me the nicest letter, telling me how he had added my name to the prayer list at this church. He even ended up offering to come visit me if I had to stay in the hospital long (which I didn't, darn). So I was back in a quandry.
The giants lost my affection when they deliberately (deliberately I say!) injured Joe Montana in the play off game in Giants stadium. One down in my fans triangle. Then the jerk from Arkansas bought the Cowboys and I was free. Free I tell you. Now of course I live in Tennessee and have begun the vicious cycle all over again, even getting to know one of the rookies on the Titans. It's not fair! (g)
Is this a crevo thread?
You don't think SURRENDERS are LEGAL? It is called WINNING A WAR, it is the same thing done to Germany and Japan. They AGREE to unconditionally surrender OR their respective countries are turned to rubble and their people forced to endure immense suffering. Surrenders are just that; CAPITULATIONS by the beaten party after THEY SAY UNCLE!!!
1. what is the validity of a contract signed with a gun pointed at one's head? is it valid or not?
2. why do we find certain behaviors acceptable between states, which we would never tolerate among individuals within a state?
