If you were investigating a situation, you would try to put yourself in their place and imagine the possibilities of what the criminal would do. But if you don't understand that, then that's okay. Just keep your comments to yourself, thanks.
I think he's saying that even if he were mad enough to kill his wife, he wouldn't also kill the baby.
