Laci's Unborn Son Had Tape Around Neck and Large Cut on Body

Laci Peterson's unborn child was found with one-and-a-half loops of plastic tape wrapped around his neck and a large cut on his body, believed to have come from a knife or some sort of sharp object, an investigation source told Fox News.

I need help on this, but if the fetus was born in good condition wouln't it have started to decompose if there had been a tear to the baby's skin in utero on the night of the murder(s)? I mean wouldn't it have been in worse shape if it had a stab wound?

The tape is debri and the cuts were caused by something like glass on the bottom of the bay that the current dragged/rolled them across?
Lots of stuff down there in the bottom that could have caused gashes on the bodies.

Fox is saying, per Geraldo, that it is really nylon and twine around the neck.

Ah --- So that means it may have been part of Laci's garment and therefore of no obvious use as a link to the husband. I see.

From what he read over the phone, the detective was describing the baby being entwined in the nylon and twine when they found him.

Late reply, so someone might have already answered this--he says it's possible that the child got tangled in some debris. But he also said it would depend on the accuracy of the report--originally they said tape. If it was, then you'd have to look at the tape: was it stuck together or to the child, or just wrapped around? I don't know if the news reports have said--and that would be important. If the tape had been in the water already, it would be highly unlikely for it to stick to the child or itself.

But the twine or nylon rope--yes, things can get tangled in these, the currents, etc. can make it wrap around things, probably including bodies. (Think about the last time you went wading at the beach--if there was seaweed, it just almost automatically wraps itself around your feet, and you have to shake it off.)

It's a lot harder to examine a body that's been in the water, than say a shallow grave. It's perfectly plausable that any kind of debris could be attached to a body.

Geraldo was on Fox News this morning commenting about the information on the condition of Connor's body. He was stating that some of the comments made yesterday in the press were a little overboard, and that actual excerpts from the autoposy were in direct conflict with what was coming out yesterday. Apparently the autopsy says that the cut was actually a flap of skin and that the wound was more than likely incurred post mortem. I'm wondering if the damage couldn't have been done from the body being washed ashore. The videos of the area where it was found show alot of rocks and perhaps the skin was ripped from being tossed against the rocks. We'll probably never know though.

Yet the press is going great guns on this? That's just disturbing.

But the report you list, if true, certainly muddies the water. But I have more questions. Was a portion of the child's chest cut out or could it have been--forgive the graphic term--eaten out by one of the water scavengers? And was it a hole in the chest or was it just below the chest?

If someone from the press got a brief look at the body, they might draw conclusions that aren't necessarily accurate. I don't mean to be gross, but water critters will definitely eat portions of bodies, going for the most tender and the most nutritious first. And from what hubby has told me, it seems the scavengers will first go through the area just below the chest, to get to the organs.

Bodies that have been in the water a long time are not pleasant to look at, and although it seems horrible that they're so damaged, in a way, it's just Ma Nature going about business as she should. If it weren't for the scavengers, in the water or on the land, our planet would be a real mess with all the rotting bodies of wildlife--and occasional humans. I know this intellectually, but in my heart, I can't help but cringe at the images evoked by all this.

Hopefully police departments and courts have learned a lesson about keeping their mouths shut. It's our right as American citizens to be judge by a fair and impartial jury. In theory. The OJ jury was the low watermark, imo...

Amen to the seaweed, but it's those darn jellyfish that manage to wrap their long tentacles around my body I remember the most! Lots of water, but they find little ole me!
