As always, I am confused. I have many bookmarks under my profile, and I would be very proud to have people read them as I think they represent a valuable resource.
How does this differ from a "homepage" and what are the advantages?

Have you looked at your home (profile) page since the last changes John made? You have to click on "links" at the top to get to the bookmarks, which leaves the main page blank, unless you put something on it.
