Is there more to the story than you posted? I refuse to link to WND, because I will be inundated with spam from them for the next year. I had so much trouble getting off of their list.

A doctoral candidate in Australia was paid $51,000 in public funds to research Jesus' sexuality, declaring unequivocally that the founder of Christianity was homosexual.

According to a report in the Adelaide Advertiser, Rollan McCleary, who himself is homosexual, earned $17,000 a year for three years to work on his thesis on homosexual spirituality. The grant came from the University of Queensland.

McCleary will be awarded his doctorate tomorrow and in the future hopes to make "gay spirituality" a separate academic discipline.

Besides determining the sexual orientation of Jesus, McCleary's research claims three or four of Christ's disciples also were homosexual.

"The starting point is the matter of John, who always referred to himself as Jesus' beloved disciple," McCleary told the Australian paper.

According to the Advertiser, he claims Jesus' astrological chart, clues in the Scriptures to which churches had been blind and accurate biblical translations all played a part in his conclusions.

McCleary also believes homosexuals find it easier to be Christian.

"You don't have to be gay to be Christian, but it would be easier," he told the paper.

The researcher says homosexuals are more inclined to be visionary and "open to the transcendent."

"If you assume that Christ was incarnate, there are perfect theological and mystical reasons to point to his sexuality," McCleary concluded.

McCleary says he is an Anglican and is described by the Advertiser as a "qualified reader of astrological charts."

WND spam alert. I bought Hugh Hewitt's The Embarrassed Believer through WND, and it now takes about 5 minutes each morning to delete the filth that just pours in over night.
