Show me an institution untouched by corrupt liberal cronyism and I'll show you an institution with public trust intact. Red Cross? Nope. Higher Education? Nope. Elementary Education? Nope. Greenpeace? Nope.

I dare you to email that response to Todd Gitlin and see what response you get.

I know when I really really want to know something right now, I go to FreeRepublic FIRST. Not ABC, NBC, CBS, PBS, New York Times, CNN, etc. You guys always come through. I can ask a little known factoid and I will get three answers by FreepMail in no time. You are the BEST! Freepers are the BEST!

Good point. Have you ever conducted a poll? I did once. We had a phone bank. When we asked the questions, we could tell who was Democrat and who was Republican from our first call. We hit a button for R, and a different one for D. The next time we only called back the party we wanted to call. I think polling companies have this and many other tricks up their sleeves... including the phrasing of the questions.

"Todd Gitlin, a Columbia University journalism professor: 'I think you'll find almost all institutions declining in popular repute.'"

Well, according to this New York Times article titled Trust in the Military Heightens Among Baby Boomers' Children, respect for the military is at its highest level since Vietnam.

Coincidence? About the same percentage of Americans consider themselves Democrat.

What you describe happens pretty frequently. Another problem is that if someone gets assigned to a "beat", it's generally because they're an advocate, not a reporter. An excellent example was the "AIDS" beat. Homosexual reporters were always assigned to it, so the stories were always "advocacy" stories, not reporting. A friend of mine is an old school journalist, pretty much a liberal, but he doesn't trust anyone. He teaches journalism, now. He told me two things that I thought were pretty interesting. The first was that he got out of reporting because the newspaper business changed. The multinationals that are buying up the dailies don't want accurate reporting, they want their spin put out. The second thing he told me is that nobody enters journalism school because they want to be a reporter anymore. They enter journalism school because they want to be editorial writers. He said the hardest thing in the world is to get a modern journalism student to report the facts, instead of telling the reader what to think.

"Imagine getting up in the morning knowing your life is a lie and that you are a total failure."

No wonder "journalists", college professors, and other "Liberals" are so deep in denial.

You could almost pity the poor deluded slobs...! Looking in the mirror must be a dreadful experience.

When ever I get a call from a pollster I say, sorry I'm not into statistical babble and I don't like yes or no questions. If you want to write what I say in those tiny boxes go ahead and ask your first question. No matter what they ask I give a 10 minute desertation on an unrelated subject. They usually shut up or hang up.

What if 22% of Fords coming off the assembly line were grossly flawed?

Of 262 adults who said they had been part of a story covered by the media, the perception was far more favorable: 78% found the coverage had been accurate.

This in itself is spin. It means one out of every four people who have come into contact with a reporter thinks the reporter walked away and either screwed up the story or intentionally lied. ONE OUT OF FOUR.

Be happy they don't! The longer the matrix is blind to the fact that people get their news and information from sources outside the matrix, the longer we will be able to access that information.

That cat's out of the bag, and it's NEVER going back in. There is nothing the "mainstream" media can do to stop the Internet, talk radio, Fox News, etc. All they can do is maybe, someday, get their act together and become legitimate competition again.

"When ever I get a call from a pollster..."

I carry the portable phone into the bathroom, hold it over the toilet and flush. They get the point.
