America Online Wednesday is set to launch a special content area for blacks in a bid to better serve one of the fastest-growing segments of the online audience. It is the first such foray by a major Internet service, analysts say.

This is why the races will never meet "in the middle". Why do so many minorities "separate" themselves from contact with other races? When I was in the Army, in the mess hall, members of each races tend to "self segregate" when choosing tables where to sit and eat. I'm not saying its proper, or improper. I'm just making an observation.

So where's the "White Focus"? Or the "Asian Focus"? And wouldn't AOL be accused of racism if there were those areas? Does that not hold true here?

The internet is the great equalizer. One does not know the race of anyone unless it is divulged, the information is relatively neutral and it is open to all people. The argument should not be made that it is somehow white oriented.[Or male oriented in the case of those "Women Only" type areas.] Why is the division necessary again? Does it not sound just a bit paternalistic to assume that blacks must have separate places so they will feel "more welcome" or whatever lispy buzzbull they want to use?

I realize that many peoples have their own cyber areas and that is good. I have learned much from going to different cultural sites. But this seems to be a deliberate attempt to segregate and divide. It would be unconsionable if it were done as a "White Interest" area.

Do they have a special site where kids can discuss the planning of their Whites-only prom?

Absolutely correct!

AOL, in a desperate attempt to increase cash flow and profits, significantly contribute and encourage segregation. What a pathetically stupid way to boost their struggling company.

Why do so many minorities "separate" themselves from contact with other races?

Maybe because the white race is so dominent and affluent..

Is this like having your own section in the back of the bus?

Number 1010 on the reasons you should dump AOL as your server. I went to cable, it's great.
